The Jack Petchey Award scheme runs throughout East London and West Essex and the recognises the effort and achievement of young people. Each month we select a pupil to receive an achievement award. The winner is given a certificate and £200, which must be spent on a school or community project. It is the school's intention to also award the monthly winner with vouchers worth £20 for themselves.

The system for deciding on each month's award winner involves inviting staff, governors, year councils and prefects to nominate an individual for an award. These nominations are put to senior staff who decide each month's successful recipient of the achievement award. The criteria for selection arewide and although excellence in academic, sporting and musical performance is considered, it has been agreed that equal or greater emphasis should be given to those who show high levels of effort and commitment in any area of school life.
