Welcome

WELCOME FROM THE HEAD OF SIXTH FORM

The Campion Sixth Form community is a place of welcome to all. Your different beliefs, backgrounds, languages, skills and journeys make our community stronger and better. Young men and women from across our local area come here to study A-levels and the BTEC in Sport or Business. Our mission, in accordance with our Jesuit tradition, is to foster ‘men and women for others’.

Set in the garden suburb of Havering, our Sixth Form is housed across two blocks. The main building is called ‘The Emmaus block’ which refers to the story in the New Testament of when Jesus accompanies two of his disciples on a journey. This journey is a stepping stone between GCSEs and the rest of your life it is your last stage before true adulthood. Here at Campion, we give you the opportunity to grow in ways you never thought you would, learn things you never knew and make decisions about your life that will last you forever, with us walking alongside you.

We offer an atmosphere of academic rigour in which curiosity and learnedness are fostered and prized. We give each student the chance to be leaders in our school. Our School Officials, House Captains, Senior Prefects, Social Justice Ambassadors, Peer Mentors and Subject Prefects are given a mandate to use their student voice to not just change our school but also our community. We work tirelessly and joyfully to raise money throughout the year for our charitable causes such as: the SMILE charity, the Sepsis Trust, St Francis Hospice, the Teenage Cancer Trust and for our Girls’ and Boys’ rugby tours. The crowning glory of our charitable work each year is on the last Sunday of the Christmas term when we host the OAP’s Christmas party for the pensioners of the area.

We are extremely proud of our outstanding Careers programme. In accordance with our Jesuit history, we believe that each of you is uniquely called to follow a vocation and live lives of purpose.  Through outstanding Careers guidance from our qualified Careers Advisor and through our extensive Careers programme, we help you to discern what your pathway is. We use our very extensive Campion Alumni network as well as: Work Experience, Careers talks, Careers newsletters, Careers evenings for parents, the Oxbridge programme, the Scholars’ Pathway, the Medical, Veterinary and Dentistry pathway, the Law, Finance, Engineering and Liberal Arts Societies as well as the UCAS and Apprenticeship application programmes and our celebrated Careers Day to prepare our students to take the next step.

A key part of our success is our extremely experienced and supportive pastoral team. We understand that the jump from GCSE to Sixth Form life can be challenging. We also understand that while you are under our care, you become adults. The world can be difficult to navigate. We want to ensure that you always have a listening ear, that you always feel that there are people there to walk on that journey with you, no matter what happens.

We have a highly inclusive environment at our school. Our specialised SEND department offers tailored support to students with needs, we have our Bursary process and our Safeguarding procedures are extremely rigorous. We have two school counsellors who work with many members of our community as well as the Wellbeing Ambassadors who spearhead mental wellbeing and support initiatives.

Our Enrichment programme offers Games lessons each Wednesday afternoon as well as chess club and choir. Our PSHE curriculum is designed to embrace the challenges of modern life within a moral framework. We encourage all students to become orators through debate club and the ‘Campion Classroom’, our teaching and learning model that runs through each lesson. Each student is invited to take the EPQ and become an expert in the area of their choice learning skills that will support them in higher education. We have a long history of rugby prowess, being one of the best schools in the country for Sixth Form rugby. Many of our first XV go onto sporting scholarships and to play professionally. We are also proud of our netball, swimming, biathlon and football teams.

Overall, we offer you the chance to take your place in the world with academic credibility. We give you a safe, supportive and nurturing environment coupled with our high expectations of you in terms of self-presentation, punctuality and independent learning. However, success to us means sending you out into the world as people of moral righteousness and integrity. Wherever life takes you, whether you become lawyers, landscape gardeners, bankers, nurses, business owners, property developers, beauticians, pilots, whatever it is, success is having the integrity to be a voice for the voiceless, to speak truth to power and for the world to be a better place because you are in it.

I love being a leader at Campion as the idea that I can bring about positive change in a community in which I’ve grown up in is nothing short of inspiring. Getting to be in a position where I can bring about even more joy to those in the younger years and lead plans and events that elevate their school experience is such a privilege to me.

Having gone through the entire lower school, I’ve practically experienced everything that those before me and those after me will experience at their time in Campion, and I remember me being in Year 7 being inspired by the current school captain. Now that I’m in that position, it only feels right that I embody our school values in everything that I do, and put myself forward as a role model for those who look for that example. Having conversations with so many faces, familiarising myself with those in all years in Campion, and them getting to know me is always refreshing.

In my seven years in this school, I’ve developed hugely as a character, and an opportunity like being a leader of this incredible community has not only strengthened my ability to lead and plan, but also shaped me into becoming more confident in myself and my capabilities.

I truly believe that there aren’t many institutions that can do it like Campion can, and it’s why I’m more than proud to be a leader for my school.

Jamaal Zindi

School Captain

As a girl, I was apprehensive about joining an all-boys school, but I need not have worried, as everyone at Campion has been friendly, polite and welcoming and I had soon settled in with an amazing group of friends who support each other academically, spiritually and socially both inside and outside of school. Catholic values and morals are prevalent and help to give the school a unique character and give students common viewpoints and set high moral standards. This helps to create a sense of togetherness for all students.

The school focuses on our total development, through academic, extra-curricular and charitable opportunities. Whether that be through having empathy for the homeless by sleeping out over night at school, escorting the lower school on a pilgrimage to London or raising money through the various fundraising events held throughout the year. The teachers truly care about their students and nurture them into becoming well-rounded members of both the school and wider community.  On a personal level this was clearly evident as I have taken an unconventional route to my sixth form studies, choosing to do a B-tec over A-levels despite meeting the grade requirements at GCSE. The teachers acknowledged this, challenged me and ensured I was on the right path. I felt listened to, understood and supported throughout.

I have no hesitation in recommending Campion as a school for your sons or daughters and in some ways, I’m having such a great time here I wish that sixth form lasted for longer and I hope that your child enjoy their time at Campion every bit as much as I am."
