Last week, our Year 7 students put their historical knowledge to the test in the return of the annual History Department Castle Competition. After studying the key features of medieval castles in their history lessons, students were challenged to construct their own castles, showcasing the defensive and structural elements they had learned about.
The competition saw an incredible range of creativity, with students using a range of materials to bring their castles to life. Many included features such as drawbridges, moats, battlements, and keeps, demonstrating a clear understanding of medieval architecture and defence strategies.
All students who took part earned house points, with additional points awarded to those who created particularly detailed and historically accurate castles. The competition was fierce, but after careful judging by Assistant Headteacher, Mr Jones, the winners were:
1st Place: Dylan J (More)
2nd Place: Mantas R (Fox)
3rd Place: Jonathan V (Fox)
In addition, Form 7 More submitted the most castles overall, with an impressive total of 8 entries.
A huge well done to all students who took part in the competition and thank you to Mr Avery for organising. Your hard work and enthusiasm for History were evident in every castle, and we look forward to seeing even more impressive creations next year!
The History department invites students to visit at break or lunch to view the entries; they really are amazing in real life.
