On Thursday 29th January, 15 Y7-10 students took part in a "careers in rail" event at Upminster station. The event allowed students exposure to different careers that are available in working on the rail; not just becoming a train driver but also working in IT, signalling, engineering, product design, timetabling etc. Students also got hand-on activities on track placement, wheel design and also learning about history of the train network and also what the future looks like in the rail industry.
Alex (Y10) writes "During the trip I learnt all sorts of new things such as the job opportunities that are available on the railway, for example, I didn't know you could be a drone operator or weather analyst for network rail. My favourite part of the trip was the wonderlab as you could see what they do in different terrains but I also liked the electrical train as you could see how services differ from each other. One thing that fascinated me during the trip was seeing the class 66 in inspiration livery. Overall, I enjoyed the trip and learning about different jobs on the railway."
